The University of Piraeus Cyber Security Research Lab (CSRL) was founded on 2002 to support the research and educational activities of the Department of Informatics related with information and network security & privacy. On March 2015 it was officially established and it is financially managed by the University of Piraeus Research Center (UPRC). The Cyber Security Research Lab consists of faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, PhD candidates and other research associates. The vision of the Lab is to reach academic excellence in the areas of cybersecurity, cyber defence and privacy and to advance the skills, knowledge, capabilities and values of our students. Our innovations result from our scientific research activities and relevant publications, our broad collaborations with national/EU/international public/private organizations and SMEs, our participation in numerous R&D cyber security EU projects, as well as in numerous national and international cyber security exercises. CSRL aims to continuously produce research, innovation and academic excellence in various fields of cybersecurity and privacy.

The Security Research Lab of the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus was founded on 2002, as a supporting laboratory for educational and research activities related with information security. On March 2015 it was officially established as a Department lab. The vision of the Security Research Lab is to support the research and educational activities of the Department in all the areas of information and communication security and privacy and to promote partnerships with other organizations, laboratories and institutions of the public and of the private sector.

The Security Research Lab consists of academic staff members, postdoctoral researchers, PhD candidates and other collaborators. The lab is led by Assistant Professor Panayiotis Kotzanikolaou and its academic staff members are complemented by Assistant Professor Kostas Patsakis and Professor Christos Douligeris.  The Security Research Lab aims to continuously produce research and innovation in various sectors of information and system security such as:

  • Information and system security
  • Network and communication security
  • Security of Critical Infrastructures (with an emphasis to the maritime sector)
  • Applied cryptography
  • Anonymity and privacy

At the same time, the Security Research Lab supports all the educational activities of the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus, in the area of information security, at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD studies level. Our goal is to be an active cell of research in the area of information security that will motivate the interconnection between academia, the private and the public sector, as well as with other research labs. Towards this direction, the Security Research Lab has initiated the Cyber Security Special Interest Group, that aims to be a liaison between the Security Research Lab and various entities and organizations such as: public authorities and private companies related with information security, our former students at all levels, partners from research projects and and any other entity who is interested in promoting their knowledge in ICT security and privacy.
