Panayiotis Kotzanikolaou
Associate Professor
Dr. Panayiotis Kotzanikolaou (Head of SecLAb). Panayiotis Kotzanikolaou is an Associate Professor in Network Security and Privacy at the University of Piraeus, Department of Informatics. He has obtained a Degree in computer science (1998) from the University of Piraeus and a Ph.D in ICT security (2003). Formerly, has served as a Security Auditor at the Hellenic Authority for the Security and Privacy in Communications (ADAE), and has also worked as a security consultant in the private sector. He has participated in various national and European R&D projects. He has participated as a Program Committee member in international conferences and he is a reviewer in various international journals. He has published more than 70 papers in books, journals and international conferences. He is a member of the Greek Computing Society and has received various certifications in information security (CISSP, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor).
Christos Douligeris
Professor
Christos Douligeris, currently a professor at the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus, Greece held positions with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Miami. He was an associate member of the Hellenic Authority for Information and Communication Assurance and Privacy and the President and CEO Hellenic Electronic Governance for Social Security SA. Dr. Douligeris has published extensively in the networking scientific literature and he has participated in many research and development projects. He is the co-editor of a book on ‘‘Network Security’’ published by IEEE Press/ John Wiley and he is on the editorial boards of several scientific journals as well as on the technical program committees of major international conferences. He has been involved extensively in curriculum development both in the USA and Greece. His latest work has focused on the use of big data and artificial intelligence techniques in several areas, mainly in Telecommunications Planning and Management and in Security Analysis of Port Information Systems. Moreover, he has been working in data analytic techniques in Learning and Education and Emergency Response Operations. Prof, Douligeris is the director of the Network Research Lab (http://netlab.cs.unipi.gr/gr/), which is closely cooperating with the Security Lab.
Nineta Polemi
Associate Professor
Nineta Polemi is a cybersecurity Associate Professor in the University of Piraeus (Dept. of Informatics) and had acted as founder and Director of the UNIPI cybersecurity master’s program and lab. She served (2017-2020) as Programme Manager and Policy Officer in the European Commission DG (CONNECT H1 Unit entitled ’Cybersecurity Technologies and Capabilities’). She has obtained her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics (Coding Theory) from The City University of New York (Graduate Center). She held teaching and research positions in Queens College and Baruch College of The City University of New York, State University of New York at Farmingdale, ICCS-National Technical University of Athens, Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB)-Solvay Brussels School-. She has over one hundred publications in cryptography, cybersecurity, secure and privacy aware services and has organised numerous scientific and policy international events. She has received many research grants and has participated as Project and Technical Manager in more than 50 cybersecurity international, EU and national R&D and commercial projects.
Constantinos Patsakis

Constantinos Patsakis, PhD (M) is an adjunct researcher of Athena Research and Innovation Center and an Associate Professor at the University of Piraeus. He holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Athens, Greece and an M.Sc. in Information Security from Royal Holloway, University of London. He obtained his PhD in Cryptography and Malware from the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus. His main areas of research include cryptography, security, privacy, cybercrime, and blockchains. He has authored more than 70 publications in peer reviewed international conferences and journals and he has been teaching computer science courses in European universities for more than a decade. He has participated in several national (Greek, Spanish, Catalan and Irish) and European R&D projects, coordinating one in digital forensics (LOCARD). Additionally, he has worked as a researcher at the UNESCO Chair in Data Privacy at the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain, Trinity College, Dublin Ireland, and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST).
Kalogeropoulos Panagiotis

Kalogeropoulos Panagiotis is currently teaching mathematics at the 1st Gymnasium of Acharnes. His first degree is in Mathematics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens where he also got his first master degree in “Theoretical Mathematics”. His second master degree is in “Logic, Theory of algorithms and Computation” from the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Patras and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His main areas of research include cryptography, e-voting and Internet of Things.
Eleni Maria Kalogeraki
PhD Candidate
Eleni Maria Kalogeraki is a PhD Candidate (PhD(c)) at the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus in the fields of Supply Chain Engineering, Risk Management and Information Technology. Her research interest is focused on applying knowledge management techniques to assess and mitigate risks in ICT supply chain environments (ontology-based risk management, maritime security management). She has sufficient knowledge of OWL Semantic Web language, SPARQL query language and RDF standard. She has authored over 10 publications in the above areas. She has received a M.Sc. Degree in Informatics from the University of Piraeus and a B.Sc. Degree in Public Administration from the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. Currently, she is working as a freelance Research Analyst and has active cooperation with the University of Piraeus Research Centre (UPRC) participating in research projects regarding the protection of port Critical Infrastructures (CIs) (i.e the ongoing EU Research Projects H2020 “CyberSec4Europe”, H2020-CIP-2016-2017 “SAURON”, past EU H2020 project “MITIGATE”). During her career, she has worked in the private sector as an economist (i.e. oil accounting and business consulting) and has held Teaching Assistant positions in the Education Sector (i.e. Hellenic National School of Public Administration). She is a registered member of the Economic Chamber of Greece (License of Accounting Profession: Class B).
Spyros Papastergiou

Dr. Spyros Papastergiou has received his B.Sc. in Computer Science, M.S. degrees in Advanced Information Systems (Network Information Systems) and Ph.D. in Security, Privacy and Interoperability of m/e-services from the University of Piraeus, Greece in 2004, 2005 and 2009 respectively. Since October 2005, he is security researcher at the University of Piraeus Research Centre and member of the Information Security Laboratory at the Informatics Dept. of the University of Piraeus. His research focuses on the protection of the Critical Infrastructures (CIs) from malicious intrusions and security breaches as well as the risk assessment and evaluation for emergency response operations and he has authored over 35 publications in the above fields. He has been involved in a set of European and national research projects (SELIS, SWEB, Immigration Policy 2.0, S-PORT, CYSM, DAEDALUS, Medusa, MITIGATE, SAURON, IntelTriage, CyberSec4Europe). Also, he has active participation in three National Cyber Defence Exercises (“PANOPTIS 2010″, “PANOPTIS 2011″ and “PANOPTIS 2013″) organized by the Hellenic National Defense General Staff.
Menia Hatzikou

Menia Hatzikou graduated from the Department of Management Science & Technology, at the Athens University of Economics & Business, with specialization in the Management of Information Systems and e-Business. She also holds a Masters from the same university in Business Administration with International orientation (MBA International). She has 15 years of experience in managing European projects (Article 6 ESF, FP6 and FP7, IST, Horizon 2020, Interreg, SEE, MED, CIPS, ENPI, etc.), as well as projects funded by the third CSF and the NSRF. Menia has also participated in a significant number of Business Process Reengineering projects (BPR), design and implementation of Information Systems, development and implementation of Quality Management Systems and Change Management procedures. She has experience in the recording, study, evaluation and the overall design of systems and procedures, both for the public and the private sector. She has participated in several research, consulting, strategic and operational planning projects, and conducted techno-economic studies, financial analysis and sustainability plans. Moreover, her involvement in the design and development of business plans and investment projects with an emphasis on research and innovation in the fields of new technologies, health, tourism, culture, environment and social entrepreneurship, is considered important. At the same time, she participates in European and international research programs, in cooperation with Universities and Research Institutions from Greece and abroad.
Dimitrios Papanikas

Dimitrios Papanikas is a PhD candidate in Information Security and Privacy at the University of Piraeus, Department of Informatics. He has obtained a Degree in computer science (2006) from the University of Piraeus and a M.Sc. in Advanced Information Systems (2009). He has formerly worked as a Teaching Fellow Associate at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, and has also worked as a software engineer in the private sector. He has participated in various national and European R&D projects. He currently works as an IT Security Consultant/Engineer in the private sector and has received various certifications in information security (CISSP, CEH, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor).
Thomas K. Dasaklis

Thomas K. Dasaklis graduated from the University of Piraeus, Department of Industrial Management and Technology. He holds an M.Sc. degree in supply chain management and a Ph.D. degree in emergency supply chain management and disaster response. His research interests lie in the area of supply chain management, operational research, Industry 4.0 applications and blockchain technology. He has participated in National and European Research projects and has published papers in several international journals and conference proceedings. He has worked for the European Commission (DG Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection) and the University of Piraeus Research Centre. He has also worked in the private sector for three years as supply chain director. He is Adjunct Academic Staff at the Hellenic Open University. He is also seasonal lecturer at the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus.

Fran Casino is a researcher at the Department of Informatics of University of Piraeus. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in Computer Science in 2010 and his M.Sc. degree in Computer Security and Intelligent Systems in 2013, both from Rovira i Virgili University. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Rovira i Virgili University in 2017 with honours A cum laude and best dissertation award). He has participated in several European-, Spanish- and Catalan-funded research projects. His main research interests are Privacy and Security protection applied to different fields such as Statistical Disclosure Control, Recommender Systems for Crowdsourcing-based E-commerce & Information Services, Smart Health and Blockchain.
Dimitris Koutras

Dimitris Koutras is a PhD candidate in “Analysis of three-tier security architecture for interconnected devices and development of security measures” at the University of Piraeus, Department of Informatics. He obtained a bachelor’s degree as Information technology and Computer technology engineer from the Technological educational institute of Central Greece (Lamia-2016). Then he also obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Security Management Engineering from University of Piraeus (Piraeus-2019). He currently participates in research programs and projects of University of Piraeus. He holds an ISO 27001:2013 Lead Auditor certification in information security. His research work concerns network security analysis, risk assessment and operating systems security.
Vangelis Malamas

Vangelis Malamas is a PhD candidate in “Distributed security and trust management technologies on IoT” at the University of Piraeus, Department of Informatics. He obtained a Degree in mathematics (2008) from the University of Patras and a Msc in Computer Science (2017) from the University of Piraeus. He currently participates in research programs of University of Piraeus. Formerly, has worked as a researcher for various European R&D projects in the private sector. He holds an ISO27001:2013 Lead Auditor certification in nformation security. His research interests are blockchain, IoT security, cryptography.
Stellios Ioannis

Ioannis Stellios received the Diploma degree in engineering and the M.B.A. degree from the National and Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 2002 and 2009, respectively, as well as the M.Sc. degree in ICT security from the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus, in 2015, where he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree. His main research interests include IoT security and critical infrastructure protection.
George Chatzisofroniou

George Chatzisofroniou (@_sophron) is a security engineer and researcher. His research interests include wireless protocols, cryptography, and network security. He has performed infrastructure and software security testing for clients around the world, including financial institutions, device & software vendors and telecommunications services providers. George is the lead developer of “Wifiphisher”, a popular open-source Access Point framework for conducting red team engagements or Wi-Fi security testing. Novel Wi-Fi attacks like “Known Beacons” and “Lure10” were discovered by George and have been presented in technical security conferences worldwide. Finally, George is a regular contributor to open-source security tools, including Nmap, the famous security scanner, and OpenBazaar, the fully decentralized marketplace that uses cryptocurrencies as a medium of exchange
Konstantinos Spyridon Mokos

Kostas is an undergraduate student on Department of Informatics,University of Piraeus and cyber security researcher. His interests are penetration testing, hardware and mobile security. He is also an active CTF player and participates in major cyber security exercises and competitions, most notably the National Cyber Defense Exercise PANOPTIS, the European Cyber Security Challenge 2016 & 2019 of ENISA and CSAW ESC 2019.
Nikos Mantas
Incident responder
Nikos is a cyber incident responder and security researcher. His interests include digital forensics, privacy and CTFs. Nikos obtained his BSc in Computer Science from the University of Piraeus and has gained valuable experience by working in NATO CCDCOE and serving in the Hellenic Cyber Defence Directorate. He currently performs digital investigations and forensic analysis in incident response services. Being part of the University’s Security Team, Nikos actively participates in major cyber security exercises and competitions and serves as a peer instructor for the younger members of the team.
